Bond Touch is a high-growth mission-driven start-up that pioneered emotional wearables. We are closing the gap between long-distance relationships by allowing each person to stay connected at all times through touch. We’ve been featured in hundreds of top publications like The New Yorker, BuzzFeed, Well+Good and CNN and our products are available online and in retail all over the world, serving a growing community of over 1 million users.

Human connection has never been more important

It has never been easier to keep in touch. With advancements in digital technology, we can chat to our loved ones face-to-face for hours across vast distances and multiple time zones, or send messages, images and videos in an instant.

But keeping in touch, of course, is not the same as actually touching. Touch is the fundamental language of connection. It helps build and strengthen relationships and is essential to intimacy. And so for couples or family members living on opposite sides of the world, sometimes a phone call just isn’t enough.

Back in 2013, the team at Impossible started thinking:

How can we use technology to express intimacy at a distance?  How can we stay close to each other physically even when we’re far apart?

Emotional wearables to connect long distance

Guided by these questions, Impossible developed Bond Touch - a pair of wearable bracelets that allow couples, family members or friends to send each other ‘touches’ wherever they are in the world. The concept is simple: when one bracelet is touched, the other lights up and vibrates to let its wearer know their partner is thinking of them.

The bracelets are paired with an app  which is designed to enhance the feeling of connection. The app has functions to create a love language and show touch history, to countdown the days to a next encounter and includes  private, encrypted chat to share messages safely.

At a time when technology is said to isolate as much as connect us, Bond Touch is part of a new era of emotional wearables trying to close this gap.

A planet-centric solution to build happy, healthy relationships

We are undergoing a planet-centric transformation to scale up our positive impact beyond individual users to the wider community and society.

We aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 5, 8, 10, 12 and13 and translated them into actionable planetary goals for the business:

- Support and education in building and maintaining healthy relationships

- Foster gender equality in relationships

- Ensure good working conditions across the value chain

- Empower and promote all kinds of relationships

- Work towards circularity and foster responsible consumption

- Minimize carbon emissions

We envision this new, broader impact to be achieved through delivering services supporting relationship behaviour change and mental wellbeing, through civic engagement initiatives aimed at education awareness and activism and perhaps target our offering to vulnerable groups.

In parallel to rethinking our proposition, we looked at improving our operations by assessing the environmental, social and economic sustainability of our value chain, at improving inclusion, making sure more people can benefit from our offering, effectively access it, use it and trust it, at improving the social and environmental impact within the supply chain and transitioning to a more circular model.

Bond Touch is the first of its kind in an emotional wearable that allows couples, family members and friends to build a connection and to sustain love and intimacy no matter how far apart. Now, it is part of the solution to build healthy relationships at scale.
