Nikabot

Bot-powered time tracking for happier, more productive teams.

Good health and wellbeing decent work and economic growth

Nikabot creates reports of a team's activity by time, project and person. It creates quick overviews in Slack and has detailed information in the Report Center.

Automating a tedious task to free up time for the more important things

After several failed attempts to make Impossible’s employees track the time they spent on each project, this responsibility fell on Nika, our office manager at the time. While everyone at the company was exchanging funny pictures on Slack, Nika was the one who had to take responsibility of tracking the teams’ time on their projects.

This became her main job. The team leads weren’t happy with this way of doing things either. They had to make sure that every employee filled in the spreadsheet created for time tracking. After that, Nika would send all the data to the accounting department.

Nika thought if people are on Slack all the time, why not take advantage of that and create a Slackbot that would track people's times on projects instead of her?

During the next Impossible Hackathon Friday, a couple of developers worked on a solution to recreate her job. But this time as a Bot.

Nikabot becomes part of the team’s workflow

Nikabot speaks to every member of the team every day so the leads don't have to. With a little humour and easy-to-use interface, the AI picks up on each individual’s most common time tracking and projects and automates them so they can set and forget.

With Nikabot, team members enter what they worked on directly in Slack so they don’t have to switch platforms. Nikabot then takes that information and creates reports and insights about the team. Employees are relieved from the daily struggle of remembering the correct way of logging hours, or the exact name of their projects. We have shifted much of the cognitive load from the user to the bot.

Happiness at work becomes part of mental health well-being

Using the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a guide, we employ our planet centric design methodology to develop solutions to individual problems that have wider planetary benefits.

By creating Nikabot as a way to ease up cognitive load and stressful time keeping chores, we contribute to SDG 3, good health and well-being and SDG 8, decent work and economic growth.

Bots and humans are only starting to learn about each other. We don’t know how communication patterns will evolve, but what we know for sure is that bots should always do the heavy lifting. Because that’s why we created them — to take over the work we don’t want or have time to do.
